Best Bass Player?

Posted 12 Feb 2009 by Keir
I bloody hate this type of question! I really do because after being asked it I find myself deliberating for hours, sometimes days, trying to compile some kind of list. In the end I usually give up and go to the pub. Of course going to the pub usually fires up another conversation about our favourite guitar players or our top ten albums of all time - and answering that one is actually impossible!

So where do I start? Well, this is going to be my favourite bass players, not the best or most technical, so sorry Mr Wooten, you're out.

Geddy Lee - Awesome technique and the ability to sing at the same time. niot to mention that Rush have written some absolutly brilliant songs.

Guy Pratt - Solid as a rock and flexible with either pick or finger. Oh and he plays for Floyd... and I like them quite a lot.

Steve Harris - Where would I be without old Bomber Harris eh? Still playing guitar most likely! The guy is , without a doubt, the best metal bass player ever.

Cliff Burton - I don't think any list would be complete without Cliff, not only a great player but a great writer to boot. If only the bus had rolled on Lars!

David Ellefson - The best Thrash bassist in my opinion. Not too flash, does exactly what is needed to keep Megadeth tunes thundering along. Puuuurfek!

Well, I think that will do for now, I could be here all night. Maybe I should say that this is part one and I'll keep adding to it later!
